Fall is coming up fast! So it is time to get your yard ready for the new season. Here are some of CGreens Landscape Management‘s favorite landscaping tips and tricks to make your yard stand out this fall!
Keeping a Healthy, Autumn Lawn
Rake the Leaves
Everyone loves jumping in leaf piles, right?? Perfect, then get to raking! Keeping your yard free of debris is essential to a healthy lawn later on. If the leaves sit on the grass, your grass is likely to wilt and die, especially in winter months, when the leaves are continually freezing and thawing. You could also improve water quality by raking up debris. The leaves, dead grass, and other natural debris can release certain forms of phosphate and nitrates that could potentially end up in surface water, so keeping a clean and healthy yard can have a domino effect!
No one likes to do it, but pulling your weeds frequently is a great way to keep your yard looking healthy and beautiful. Besides, doing this will lower your weed population in the spring!
Water, water, and more water! Once the leaves have dropped, make sure you deep water your landscaping before shutting off your outdoor water for the winter months.
Cut Your Grass to the Ideal Length
Height matters. Ideally, your grass should be 2 to 2.5 inches tall. Any shorter, and you will limit the grass’s ability to make and store food, which will stunt its growth and health for Spring. Any taller, and your grass could mat, causing winter lawn disease such as snow mold. Gross!
Plant Fall Flowers
Here’s a fun one. Plant more flowers! Your landscape can start to look dull when the leaves turn brown, and there’s nothing left on the trees, so fall flowers are a perfect way to add color and vibrancy to your yard!
Add Some Fall Colors to Your Home
What accents beautiful flowers more than a beautiful wreath?? Although this is not your grass or trees, a wreath on your front door can add so much life and character to your yard. The colors can bring out the natural beauty of those new flowers you plant!
Help Your Yard Recover From the Texas Heat
TLC! Let’s face it, your yard is going to need some TLC after the Texas heat and before those winter months, so you should fertilize and seed your lawn. Seed the brown spots, and all over for that matter, and fertilize around September through November to promote healthy growth.
